This is a follow-up to a bug that was already reported on August 8 and confirmed by Language Reactor on August 11. At that time, a Language Reactor representative said that the issue had been reproduced on other shows and that a report had been sent to the fix team.
More than a month later, the same serious problem is still occurring with Italian ASR Pro on Netflix.
I am currently watching The Stranger on Netflix in the USA, using the Italian dubbed audio with Italian ASR Pro subtitles.
ASR Pro is frequently displaying text that is completely different from what is actually being spoken.
For example:
Actual Italian audio: “Ero fuori di testa.”
ASR Pro displays: “No, ero in un mondo tutto mio.”
These are not slightly different transcriptions and this is not a normal speech-recognition error involving one or two words. They are two completely different Italian sentences with a somewhat similar meaning.
This strongly suggests that ASR Pro may sometimes be substituting or incorporating regular Netflix subtitle text instead of transcribing the actual dubbed audio.
This is a very serious problem for language learners. The entire reason I use Language Reactor — and the primary reason I pay for the Pro subscription — is ASR Pro. I specifically need a transcription of the words I am actually hearing. Regular Netflix subtitles frequently do not match dubbed audio, which is precisely why ASR Pro is so important.
If ASR Pro displays a different sentence from the one being spoken, the feature becomes essentially unusable for this purpose.
Since Language Reactor confirmed this bug more than a month ago, I would appreciate a specific update rather than simply another acknowledgment that the issue has been forwarded to the team.
Has the cause of this bug been identified? Is a fix currently being worked on? Is there an estimated timeframe for resolving it?
