Language Reactor no longer loads on YouTube for me. Netflix and the
languagereactor.com web player are fine — the problem is the extension
on youtube.com only.
Environment
- Language Reactor 5.1.8 (hoombieeljmmljlkjmnheibnpciblicm)
- Chrome 151, macOS (Apple Silicon)
- Logged in, extension enabled, no “Errors” button on the
chrome://extensions card
Symptom
No LR interface appears on any youtube.com/watch page. Not the subtitle
bar, not the side panel, not the player button. Inspecting the DOM
confirms it: zero LR elements are injected. The content script does run
(window.LANGUAGE_REACTOR_EXTENSION is true), but nothing renders.
Console error, on every page load

What I found
The failing call is chrome.runtime.onMessage.addListener. In the context
where pageScript_lly.min.js is executing, chrome.runtime exposes only
id — onMessage is undefined. The exception fires inside a
DOMContentLoaded handler during module init, so initialization aborts
before any UI is created. That would explain why the extension is
clearly loaded but renders nothing.
Reproduction
100% reproducible. Every video, every reload, identical stack trace and
byte offsets. Tested on multiple videos including ones with captions
enabled.
Already tried, no change
- Developer mode + “Update” on chrome://extensions
- Reloading the page and restarting the browser
Happy to run any diagnostic you want on my side.
