6.0.x: all paused YouTube / YouTube Music tabs start playing at once (autoPause watcher calls play())

  • Link: any youtube.com video; also music.youtube.com
  • Country: not content-specific, it happens on any video
  • Languages: not language-specific
  • Version / browser: Language Reactor 6.0.0 and 6.0.1, Brave (Chromium 154) on macOS 26, two different Macs

What happens

Since the 6.0.0 update (Oct 18), every now and then all YouTube tabs that I had paused start playing at the same time, by themselves. A paused YouTube Music tab starts playing too. This never happened on 5.1.8.

It also happens right away when I disable Language Reactor at brave://extensions while paused YouTube tabs are open.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open 2–3 YouTube videos in separate tabs and pause all of them.
  2. Disable Language Reactor at brave://extensions.
  3. Every paused YouTube tab starts playing.

The random episodes line up with extension updates: 6.0.0 installed Oct 18 and 6.0.1 on Oct 20. Toggling Auto-pause in one tab probably triggers it as well, but I haven’t confirmed that.

Expected: paused videos stay paused.

Likely cause

pageScript_lly.min.js in 6.0.0 and 6.0.1 has a reactive watcher on the autoPause setting. It resumes the video every time the setting is (re)applied with a false value:

Vt(() => q.get("autoPause"), e => {
  zr("#autoPause").prop("checked", e),
  e || U.vidMan.play()
})

The page script runs in every *.youtube.com tab, including music.youtube.com. So whenever settings are reloaded or broadcast — extension update or reload, disable, or a settings change in any tab — every tab with Auto-pause off calls play(). 5.1.8 has no such watcher.

Suggested fix

Call play() only when the user turns Auto-pause off in the current tab, and only if the video was held by an auto-pause. Don’t call it on every setting change.
