Dear Developers,
I am writing to propose a high-impact feature for Language Reactor: a Dictation / Type-to-Answer Mode. Currently, testing listening comprehension is a manual and subjective process. While I can feel like I understand a sentence, there is a significant gap between passive recognition and active production.
The Importance of Exact Reproduction:
I believe it is vital for the platform to require the exact formulation of the audio/video. Language is not just about isolated words; it is about the flow. By forcing the user to reproduce the sentence exactly as spoken, you allow us to feel how the sentences fly like birds in the sky. This rhythmic internalization is what allows a learner to move beyond translating in their head to truly speaking by heart.
The Proposed Feature:
A mode where subtitles are hidden, and the user must type what they hear to proceed. This creates a fast-track for active involvement.
Key Technical Requirements:
Verification Sensitivity (User-Controlled):
Strict Mode: Matches everything (case-sensitivity, commas, periods) to ensure perfect spelling and grammar.
Relaxed Mode: Ignores punctuation and capitalization, focusing strictly on the words and their order.
Active Training Loop: The audio segment should loop or be easily repeatable with a hotkey while the user is in the input field.
Immediate Feedback: Visually highlight where the user’s flow broke (e.g., missed particles, wrong word order) compared to the original script.
Why this is essential:
Without a way to type the answers, it is too easy to be misled by our own perceived understanding. To speak like a native, we must train in a high-speed, active mode that demands precision. This feature would turn Language Reactor into a true laboratory for mastering the music and structure of a new language.
Thank you for your dedication to making this the best language-learning tool available!
Regards, Roman.
