Question about adding IPA phonetics in Language Reactor

Hi there,

Great to hear from you — I was happy to see your email. I’ve just subscribed for a 3-month membership.

I wanted to ask a quick feature question: in Language Reactor (whether in podcasts, reading, or videos), is there any way to display IPA phonetics?

Ideally I’d love:
• IPA for individual words, and also
• IPA/phonetics for connected speech (e.g., linking, assimilation) for whole phrases/sentences.

Also, will the mini dictionary (and the upgraded dictionary coming soon) support showing IPA in the entries?

Thanks a lot, and congrats on all the updates!

Best wishes,
Raye

I am learning British English right now :grinning:

Hello @rui_J
Thank you very much for your kind words and for subscribing. :slightly_smiling_face: :dizzy:
You can customize LexaAI to suit your preferences.
For example, you can add a custom prompt to the LexaAI block in the settings (see the screenshot below).
Based on your request, you can use the following prompt:

Phonetics (IPA): Please show the IPA transcription of the word <WORD> in this sentence: <CONTEXT>. Also, if possible, provide the IPA transcription of the entire sentence, taking connected speech into account (linking, assimilation, reductions).

After that, when you click on a word, you will see Phonetics (IPA) tab generated by LexaAI in the dictionary. (screenshot2)

Hi,

Thank you so much for your help — this really solves a big part of my problem!

May I ask a quick follow-up questions?
Do you know how to change the voice/accent for reading aloud when I add my own text? I’d like to use British English pronunciation as the main option.

Thanks again for your patience and support. Language Reactor has been a huge help to me in both my studies and daily life.

Best wishes,
Raye

It’s good to know that it helped you :raised_hands:
Unfortunately, the voice/accent cannot be changed during text playback
If you have any more questions, you can always ask them here :slightly_smiling_face:
