Issue with Translation Showing as '-' in YouTube Videos

Issue with Translation Showing as ‘-’ in YouTube Videos

Hello everyone!

I’m encountering an issue with the extension in Chrome, particularly on YouTube. I believe the problem is related to the “Show machine translation” option, as the video’s language is displayed correctly, but the translation language only shows as “-”.

I’ve tried several solutions, such as switching browsers, disabling other extensions to avoid conflicts, and clearing cache and cookies, but nothing seems to work.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Could anyone help me with this?

Thank you in advance!

I’ve been having the same problem for several days now, translating from English to Spanish. I’ve tried different browsers and the error persists. Please, has anyone found a solution?

Hi @Angelina_Kalinichenk
It happens to me in all the videos, for example this one. Can you help me here or should I open a new thread in the forum?

Hi @Angelina_Kalinichenk

I’ve already tried changing the settings in different ways, and continues with the same error. This is the configuration I always use.

I’ve had this problem for more than 10 days.

Hi there, I’m experiencing the same problem for a while (even using other extensions)!

Here, sometimes when I refresh the page, the translation starts to work! In my case I’m using this extension to translate from English to Portuguese.

Same here. All my videos in at least 3 (Italian, Russian and German) languages the translation is showing up as only a hyphen.
Nothing has changed in my settings. Just started 2 days ago.

This has happened in the past, then it mysteriously disappeared. Now it’s back again.
LR or Youtube has done something to the settings.

Same problem here, both in Google Chrome as in Edge. Nothing seems to help, from emptying browser cache to reset allllll the settings. And it’s with every language!

Hope this will be solved soon. I love Language Reactor, and it works great for language learning… as long as it works :+1:

Hi there, I’ve been having the same problem increasingly lately.
But a temporary workaround is to watch the video in a private window while the extension is enabled there also. Then it seems to work.

Hope this can also help finding the bug to solve the issue.

Feels like YouTube’s translation is broken. Now we are working on it!

One workaround I am using to bypass this error is:

Go to your video → settings icon in the bottom → Subtitles/CC → select the language there as your target language → then go to auto-translate and select the same language again. And somehow this seems to be working.

Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGvjQmIbfwQ
German >> German seems to make LR work for me.
