Subtitle language automatically reverts from [VO] to [CC]

I’ve been experiencing this bug for over a year and finally bothered to write a post about it.

Every time I use Language Reactor, I always have to manually set the Netflix subtitle language to français [VO]. Then if I leave a video for a few minutes, or if I open a new video, it reverts to français [CC]. The preference is never remembered.

French CC subtitles almost never reflect the spoken dialogue, so they’re useless for my purposes.

I thought maybe it’s due to some behavior on Netflix’s end, but it also happens on youtube.

  • Here’s an example netflix link, but it happens on every video. If you set the subtitle language to français [VO], then skip to the subsequent episode, it should revert to français [CC]
  • Happening in every country

@c41 This is the expected behaviour: when you reload the video page, or go back to the menu and choose a new movie, the language settings should reset to the original language of the movie.

If you go to the next episode of the series, the languages should stay the same.

Thanks for the reply. I think it would be a better UX to preserve user settings where possible, and fall back to the original language if that selection isn’t available. That seems like the least disruptive approach.

But after testing again with a different series, I can confirm that my français [VO] selection is not saved on skip to the next episode. Even if I focus away from the browser for 10-15 minutes, it will automatically revert to the original language (maybe due to some background refreshing behavior from Netflix?)
