High number of bugs render LR unusable

Hi there,
I’m a big fan of Language Reactor and use it all the time. I would really would love to keep using it, however, since a few weeks it has become completely unusable for me.

Here’s a list of the main problems I face with it:

#1 Hovering over words is broken: instead of a translation it shows me slogans like “languagereactor.com - learn any language” or a (I’m guessing) random word in a random language.
#2 Looking up words doesn’t work anymore: left clicking a word inside of LR results in an empty screen from which you have to reload the page, on Netflix it shows me the above mentioned slogans, on YouTube nothing happens at all when left-clicking.
#3 PhrasePump is practically useless now: no sound when clicking the play button or after showing the answer, trying to look up a word results in the same empty screen I mentioned above, where you’re forced reload to get back to the main PhrasePump page, throwing you out of your current session. Hovering over a word for translation shows me the random words and slogans I mentioned in #1.
#4 Play button next to saved phrases and marked words doesn’t work: just like in PhrasePump (#3) there is no sound at all after pressing it.
#5 Chatbot (Aria) is completely broken: hitting send after typing something results in a never-ending loading circle.
#6 Failed services: on the main page for the third icon on top it always shows me a red dot and "Failed services: HOST MEM, ASR CONTAINERS, ASR-L.
#6.5 A rather minor annoyance inside of PhrasePump: On the right in statistics, when hovering over the purple fields that show you how many words you’ve been practicing, the two values are the opposite way around (“You’ve practiced 7 words and phrases in the last 1000 days”). It’s the same for all four fields. Don’t know whether this has ever been reported.

I’m on a paid, active subscription, I’m based in Poland (target language Polish from English), I’m using Brave as a browser on all my devices and I tried it on different ones (PC, laptop, phone) as well as on Chrome, but everywhere the problems are and have been the same for a while now. A few other users have reported many of the same and very similar bugs I listed above and it’s been some weeks since their first reports.

I guess I would just like to know: are you aware of all these bugs and are you actively trying to fix them?

Thank you guys and if you need any more info, let me know.

Hello @Llama,
Thank you for letting us know about the bugs you’ve found! It helps us improve!
I tried to reproduce the bugs from your list and was only able to reproduce two of them: #4 Play button next to saved phrases and marked words doesn’t work. However, it only occurs for phrases saved after April 23. Please confirm if this happens on your end.
We are aware of errors #1 “Hovering over words is broken” and #2 “Looking up words doesn’t work anymore.” We have already fixed them locally, and the fix will be included in the next update.
As for the other bugs, I haven’t been able to reproduce them.
Please let us know which browser you’re using, which country you’re in, and whether these are constant errors or if they occur from time to time. Thank you for your time! :raised_hands:

Hi @Yana
Thank you for the fast response. Hm, that’s frustrating, I hope the new update will also fix the other issues. Do you know when it is rolling out?

As mentioned above, I’m on the Brave browser and I’m based in Poland. Yes, these are constant errors and most of them have been the same since at least 3 weeks. I tried deinstalling the extension, logging in/out on different browsers and devices.

As for the bug with the play button: no matter if it’s phrases saved before or after April 23rd, there is either no sound at all or it plays a clip like “try languagereactor.com” in different languages. The play button next to the context (the whole sentences from Netflix, Youtube etc.) doesn’t play any sound at all.

Hope that helps!

@Llama, thank you very much for your reply. The thing is, the extension is officially supported only in Google Chrome, so in other browsers, including Brave, it may not always work properly.
An update was released today, and some issues have been fixed. For example, the play button next to saved phrases and marked words isn’t working, and translations.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask, thanks!

Hi @Yana, thanks for the reply! I downloaded Google Chrome and logged in there, I have exactly the same issues (everything looks 100% identical there). Unfortunately, the update didn’t fix any of the problems for me. Is there anything else I can do on my end to try to fix these issues?

@Llama, I still can’t reproduce the bugs described above. To help me pinpoint the technical cause, could you please send your full console logs to languagereactor.com: right-click anywhere and select Inspect (or press F12), navigate to the Console tab at the top of the panel that appears, right-click anywhere inside that log area to select Save as… to create a text file (or simply highlight everything, copy, and paste it).
Also, please record a video demonstrating one of the bugs. To do this:

  1. Open the developer tools (for Windows: Ctrl + Shift + J; for macOS: Cmd ⌘ + Option ⌥ + J)
  2. Follow all the steps to reproduce the bug

Please send the video and log files to me via email at yana.baklan7@gmail.com
Thank you for helping us improve! :raised_hands:
