OK, obviously, Language Reactor is pretty much dead. No development, not even fixing bugs reported by many users, hardly any replies from the developers. I paid for it, and it was good when it worked, but it’s just broken.
Can someone recommend an alternative to me? My requirements are:
Good quality ASR (transcription of the audio stream to text)
Dual/triple subtitles: the ASR, the translation of the ASR, and, if possible, a non-ASR translation (eg from Netflix)
Ability to easily jump to the beginning of the current/previous subtitle, with the video matching
Explaining phrases, idioms, gramatical forms of the ASR
That’s pretty much it - at this point, I don’t really care much about other features such as saving words, word categories, learning etc.
Do you guys think it would make sense to develop something like this from scratch? I am a experienced developer but not sure since there are many alternatives, but from which I hear that they are just not as good as language reactor was.
I would say that if you can find a project that you like (the concept, the existing developers etc), it may be better to join. Starting from scratch means a higher probability that it may end up as another unfinished project - as you said, we have got many of those.
FluentAI will get ASR subtitles very soon! According to their discord it is 99% done, so I guess it will maybe be released next week or at least very soon. But I dont like the price of FluentAI, it is much more expensive than Language Reactor.
I think Language Reactor is very good when it works. It is true that there has been a lot of problems with Language Reactor but they are still working on it. I agree that they could do more, it seems that it takes weeks if not months or longer for them to fix bugs.
