Language Reactor alternative

OK, obviously, Language Reactor is pretty much dead. No development, not even fixing bugs reported by many users, hardly any replies from the developers. I paid for it, and it was good when it worked, but it’s just broken.

Can someone recommend an alternative to me? My requirements are:

  1. Good quality ASR (transcription of the audio stream to text)
  2. Dual/triple subtitles: the ASR, the translation of the ASR, and, if possible, a non-ASR translation (eg from Netflix)
  3. Ability to easily jump to the beginning of the current/previous subtitle, with the video matching
  4. Explaining phrases, idioms, gramatical forms of the ASR

That’s pretty much it - at this point, I don’t really care much about other features such as saving words, word categories, learning etc.

Any suggestions?

I have tried FluentAI, but it failed to deliver my point #1 already

I agree. I am shocked by their lack of updates and disappointed by their usual response to all the bugs.

Time is ripe for another competitor to take this place

what did you find? i tried trancy

did you find anything good out there?

Do you guys think it would make sense to develop something like this from scratch? I am a experienced developer but not sure since there are many alternatives, but from which I hear that they are just not as good as language reactor was.

what is bad about Fluent AI

I would say that if you can find a project that you like (the concept, the existing developers etc), it may be better to join. Starting from scratch means a higher probability that it may end up as another unfinished project - as you said, we have got many of those.

FluentAI will get ASR subtitles very soon! According to their discord it is 99% done, so I guess it will maybe be released next week or at least very soon. But I dont like the price of FluentAI, it is much more expensive than Language Reactor.

I think Language Reactor is very good when it works. It is true that there has been a lot of problems with Language Reactor but they are still working on it. I agree that they could do more, it seems that it takes weeks if not months or longer for them to fix bugs.

Indeed, the FluentAI developers say it should become available the next week, and that it should be available in their “local player” already. Well, I have tried the local player, but it did not work for me (I have sent the feedback to the developers - at least they are active and communicating!)

I completely agree, when Language Reactor worked, it was the best I could find. It’s just unfortunate that the developers pay so little attention to fixing, or even acknowledging bugs, communicating with users etc. It’s already been weeks since users started to complain about ASR not working, and it looks like nothing has happened - at least still not working for me, and no answers to my reports about it.

Fluent AI’s cost doesn’t justify what they are providing. A half baked project at such price makes no sense.

Also they don’t have international payment options. Also don’t have regional pricing.

For 2 months Pro of Fluent Ai, I can get annual Language Reactor.

I understand their dev team is very active on this sub to promote their product, but their product is not up to standard of what we are getting in Langauge Reactor currently.

Although I do agree that Devs of this product are not very pro-active, at least not here. They probably should have onboarded few more devs, if the project was getting too big to support, I guess.

I’ve tried out/looked at FluentAI, LingoPear and Trancy; Trancy looked really promising but doesn’t support my target language. The other two are imo money grabs (at least currently) as they don’t quite offer much more than LR (except maybe a few additional sites) but totally overvalue what they offer… was actually very surprised to see their pricing model.

Base LR is free and Pro, imo, is still much better value than the alternatives. It is unfortunate how poor/outdated the LR communication strategy is but I think they still have the stronger offering.

I know the FluentAI dev(s) are around here promoting their product and I don’t mean any offense but your product is much too expensive in my opinion for what you offer… but I also know that you are/were a LR user who had the same frustrations we all have with LR so although I don’t think FluentAI is worth what you charge now, perhaps it will be someday.
