LR usually gets stuck on "-Loading subtitles...- on Netflix

Hey all. I know that Language Reactor seems to be an abandoned project these days, but since mid-June it’s mostly stopped working for me on Netflix so I thought I’d ask and give more info just in case any other users can help.

At least 9 times out of 10, it doesn’t load subtitles, and gets stuck on “-Loading subtitles…-”. I’ve tried on several computers and OSs (Linux, Mac, Windows). But occasionally it does work.

I don’t see any errors in the dev tools console, only “Hello, from Language Reactor Extension.” No error or blocked requests in the Network tab.

There are a couple of other threads on similar issues, but either they’ve had no responses or it started working again, and the newest posts are from 2024.

  • Please provide a link to the video/page you have the bug
Example video: Watch Bullet Train Explosion | Netflix Official Site

  • Please let us know from which country you are having the bug (YT and Netflix have different content and subtitles depending on the country the user is located)
    United Kingdom

  • If relevant, please let us know what are the configuration of languages you try to have
Audio Japanese, subtitle Japanese, translation English. But also happens for various other audio and subtitle languages such as German, Italian, and Spanish.

Happening to me as well Vietnamese - > English . Usually I can fix it with a browser restart but doesn’t always work.

Is there any update here? I haven’t been able to use LR for the last 3 days. Pretty disappointing , and my first month of premium is about to end.

Some sort of response from LR would be greatly appreciated. It’s unusable right now and I am paying for pro.

Hello @Grubtub11
I have everything working correctly, even for the movie above subtitles work. Please give me more details to try to reproduce it:

  1. Are subtitles not displayed always or for some movies?
  2. Specify the language of translation, subtitles and audio
  3. What country you are in
  1. Not working at all anymore for any movies.
  2. Audio is Vietnamese, Subs in Vietnamese and English.
  3. I’m in Vietnam.

All was working up until like 5 days ago and nothing loads anymore.

If it’s helpful at all, I find that it pretty much always works for all episodes of some series, and rarely works for others.

Works on: Midnight Diner. Japanese audio, Japanese and English subs, example episode: Watch Midnight Diner | Netflix)

Worked on previously but mostly stopped working sometime last month, except occasionally:

  • Kleo (German audio, English and German subs, example: Watch Kleo | Netflix Official Site)
  • Black Mirror (tried various audio and subtitle language combinations including Italian, Spanish, German; I’m not allowed to add a third link but it’s easy to find, and I was trying episodes in season 3)
