Word Lookup is entirely broken

Whenever I click on certain words I get gibberish as the translation and then an “ad” for language reactor.
Example:
冲菜 (chōngcài)

It gives a random text as translation and then Language Reactor - the best way to learn languages. languagereactor.com in the dictionary window, and it reads it out in Japanese.
This is the link to the specific video, but it’s happening everywhere. Language Reactor
I am watching from Hungary and the language configuration is Chinese simplified and English as translation.

Additional info: I tried a different browser and a different language and it’s broken everywhere. I also checked if it was caused by one of my extensions and it wasn’t.

@jegaevi thanks for your message. We are currently looking into the issue and will fix it as soon as possible! Thanks!

@jegaevi And please let me know—does this happen in the extension as well?

I haven’t figured out how to use the extension yet because every time I try to activate it it just brings me back to the language reactor web page, so I don’t know :sob:

@jegaevi Let’s try to figure out what’s wrong.
Do you see the checkmark next to “Install Chrome Extension” on the home screen?

Thank you! I reinstalled the extension and now it works!

So it looks like the translation under the original sentence works, but the dictionary doesn’t work on the extension either and it either shows gibberish or the language reactor promo text and the text to speech is a random language.

Thank you for describing the issue in detail. This will help us fix it as soon as possible. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for acting so fast! Are there any updates on the issue? Has the dev team found the problem? If you need any additional info or anything that could help please let me know.

EDIT:
Quick update: I got a free VPN, set it to the Netherlands and now everything works again, both on the site and the extension (except I get a failed to fetch translation error message on YouTube when using the extension, but I get the translations on the LR site)

Hello, I am facing the same issue with Turkish-Russian translations.
The phrases are not translated in videos, but the individual word translations seem to be working there.

In PhrasePump, the written phrase translation is fine, but individual words and voiceover are invalid.
I reinstalled the extension, but it did not help.

Same here, the lookup started failing randomly for me too. Clearing the extension cache and disabling other subtitle-related extensions helped a bit, so there may be some kind of conflict going on. Also worth testing in a fresh browser profile just to rule out extension/settings issues.
