Request to Add Swahili to Language Reactor

Hello Language Reactor team,

I’m an avid user of Language Reactor, and I’ve been thrilled with its effectiveness in facilitating language learning and broadening my access to international content. However, I’ve noticed a lack of representation for indigenous African languages. Given the platform’s impressive linguistic diversity, I believe adding Swahili, a widely spoken and culturally significant language across East Africa, would be a valuable enhancement.

Swahili boasts over 16 million native speakers and over 82 million speakers in total, making it one of the most spoken languages in Africa. It holds a key position in the African Union, is widely used in regional communication and media, and is increasingly relevant in international relations and business, as detailed in this article: Why Study Swahili? | Center for African Studies. Its rich cultural and historical importance is also highlighted here: https://african.wisc.edu/languages/swahili/. Considering that Language Reactor already supports languages with smaller speaker populations, such as Hungarian (13 million) and Finnish (5.5 million), integrating Swahili, with its larger speaker base and pivotal role in the African linguistic landscape, seems both feasible and beneficial.

The addition of Swahili would not only expand the platform’s global reach but also serve as an invaluable resource for Swahili language learners worldwide. It would honor the rich cultural heritage of the Swahili-speaking community and foster a more inclusive content landscape for all users.

I’m curious to know if there are concrete plans to add Swahili to Language Reactor and, if so, what the potential timeline might be. I believe this inclusion would align perfectly with Language Reactor’s mission to provide comprehensive language learning tools.

Thank you for your time and consideration, and I eagerly anticipate your response.

I highly second this request!! I am currently watching Safari on Netflix and LR pro automatically translates the Swahili really well but there’s no way for me to track my learning which is quite annoying.

I will comment under this request weekly if I need to in hopes of getting more eyes on this because quality Swahili learning resources are desperately needed.

Thank you for asking @Alex_R !!
